Imitation of an Etruscan Kore (Front (old photography))

Alceo Dossena

The J. Paul Getty Museum

The J. Paul Getty Museum
Los Angeles, United States

A standing female figure with her right leg advanced. All of the left leg except for the heel, both arms, and some drapery are missing. The left heel appears to be lifted off of the rectangular base, perhaps striding. She wears thong sandals on her feet. The right arm appears to have been extended to the side and the left arm held slightly back. She wears a chiton under a himation. Incised, wavy lines indicate the chiton and himation borders. The drapery falls in sharp, angular folds. She has large, almond shaped eyes, prominent cheeks, and large lips. She wears a taenia which makes her hair loop up at the front. Two lock fall down each side of the neck, broken at the shoulders. Sculpted ridges create a sense of volume in the hair which is gathered in at the nape of the neck in a loop. The back of the figure is only summarily modeled.
