Warszawa, Poland

After the German and Soviet joint invasion of Poland in September 1939, almost half of the Poland’s territory with 22 million Polish citizens fell under the Nazi’s rule. German colonization of annexed lands followed the forced displacement of the majority of Poles and all Jews from the affected territories. German displacement administration organised registers, indexes and temporary camps for the displaced. Also, the Nazis took good care to make sure that people evicted from their homes took no more than a single piece of hand luggage with them.
