I have chosen ceramic as my primary material. Clay is and has been used by all cultures throughout history. A natural product, porcelain is a universal language shared between my audience and me. Each vessel-like object I make is produced through mold casting. While appearing similar in character, The individual pieces are different in their particularity. Each is unique. Cast in semi-controlled settings, The base of each from is shaped like a plan bowl while the top of the piece has a configuration that is quite special: its tips are created through chance in the casting process and during firing. I present each paper-thin form with others like it in a family of resemblances. Each series is placed in a seemingly unified space in a pattern. The space can be understood either as two-dimensional(that is, as a drawing in space) or as three-dimensional(as a multi-faceted wall or floor sculpture). I value simplicity, equilibrium and uneasy blend of safety and insecurity. I want to avoid complete synthesis. My work is simple sophistication, a visual touch.
