The Imperial City, also called Dai Noi, is a walled enclosure within the citadel of Hue, which functions to protect the most important palaces, namely Thai Hoa Palace (the place where the emperor hold a court), the Forbidden City (where the emperor and royal family live), and shrines to worship the Nguyen ancestors.
