Chicago, United States

Since ancient times, the emperor of China was known as the Son of Heaven, emphasizing his role as a link between the supernatural and human worlds. This silk robe from the Qing (ching) Dynasty (AD 1644-1911) prominently features the two-horned, five-clawed dragon, traditionally used only by the emperor to acknowledge his special status.
