In a Cafe, also called 'Absinthe'

Edgar Degas was an urban painter, unlike his impressionist friends. He liked to paint the enclosed spaces of stage shows, leisure activities and pleasure spots. This painting can be seen as a denunciation of the dangers of absinthe, which would soon be outlawed.
