The Fernando de Noronha Archipelago hosts the smallest green turtle remnant nesting population, which was nearly extirpated by heavy human exploitation prior to legal protection. Green turtles have a small, blunt head. Their beak is coarsley serrated which helps them in tearing marine vegetation, their main food source.
