Vittore Zanetti Zilla (1864–1946) was a self-taught painter who took advantage of his attendance at the studio of Giacomo Favretto, a family friend. In 1882, he enrolled at the Venice Academy, where he followed the teachings of Guglielmo Ciardi and Egisto Lancerotto. He achieved his first successes on a European scale with Venetian landscapes and views done in watercolor, a technique that at first engaged him almost exclusively. In the years between the two centuries, his style underwent major changes, evolving from the vivid but traditional realism of the early years to a more personal approach. An example of this is the painting "In Chioggia", made by the painter in about 1902.
