Àngel Pomerol Sánchez (1961) This is an incisive, surprising and allegorical work which speaks of the different aspects that have shaped the memory of its author. The most remarkable: decadence and death, as illustrated by the famous “chapiter of rats” in the cloister of Tarragona cathedral. Secondly, the memory of his childhood, in which a porcelain rat decorated his imaginary world. All of this expresses the laconic motivation, while the other part is provided by the Brothers Grimm tale, the Pied Piper of Hamelin, the terrifying fable to which the work is dedicated. In memoriam presents a group of rats eating three allegorical spinning tops. Are they structures in different times, some still active… or are they the playthings of boys or men? Are they spinning tops? Tap levers? They are artefacts that can allude to humanised universes which are entering periods of decadence, to systems which are paralysed in the weakening of their rotation and which end up becoming a tasty meal for the devouring forces: the rats. In these disturbing pieces, we can also witness dynamic states which are bordering on collapse. 36th Julio Antonio Sculpture Award, 2012 Art Biennial
