Sam Ebohon is a studio artist celebrated for his dynamic brushstrokes and abstract depictions of human life. Born in Lagos to Edo-Benin parents, Ebohon earned his HND from Yaba College of Technology in 1990. His signature style combines large, kinetic strokes with shorter, precise marks, creating a textured, motion-filled aesthetic that blurs the line between abstraction and realism. Ebohon's work explores human existence within various social contexts, and his accolades include the Gold Medal Prize at the Caterina de Medici painting competition in Florence, Italy.
In the Beginning Was a Job portrays a boy resting his head on a wheelbarrow, perhaps after a long day of work or waiting for the next task. The scene is brought to life through Ebohon’s skilled use of vibrant, interlacing strokes that convey both weariness and hope.
