Shen Roujian born in Zhaoan, Fujian province. He studied Chinese painting in his early years, then western painting and started print making in middle 1930’s. He joined in the New Forth Army and engaged in art creating after Anti-Japanese War’s eruption. He was the leader of the painting Team of Army Battlefield Aid Group, art researcher of East China Dazhong Daily. He served successively as professor of The Fine Arts College of Shanghai University, the executive director of Chinese Artists Association, the vice chairman of Shanghai Branch of Chinese Artists Association, the vice chairman of Chinese Printmakers' Association, etc. In 1991 he won the Outstanding Contribution Award for Chinese New Print.
