This incense holder is cylindrical with a lid and it is made of gray clay. An openwork design is carved into the lid. The design is of a wanzi, or swastika, a symbol of divinity and spirituality. It is used in India as a good luck sign. Gray pottery from Neolithic times was discovered in an archaeological site of the Peiligang culture. The Yangshao culture and the Longshan culture also made a significant amount of gray pottery.
