The Black Star Square, otherwise known as the Independence Square is a major landmark on the edge of the city of Accra and stands between the Atlantic Ocean and the district of Osu in Accra. It is one of the largest public squares of its type in the world and was built by Ghana’s founding president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah after Ghana became the first colonised African country to gain its independence on 6th March, 1957
The Arch of Independence sits right at the back of the Black Star Square and is in alignment with the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier and the Black Star Gate.
