The characteristic red of Indian carpets emphasizes the graceful yet dynamic design of the trellis pattern connecting the floral and serrated motifs. The serrated leaves enclosing a palmette, as well as the medallions and cartouches in the border, recall sixteenth century Herat carpets from Iran, but the exuberance of the floral forms and richness of color confirm an Indian origin.
