Berkshire Museum
Pittsfield, United States

This oriental genre scene captures a group entering through a red stone arch and assembling in a courtyard of the Palace of Agra. The prince rides a pure white horse and is flanked by his two attendants on foot. Behind this group another Indian, flanked by attendants, enters through the archway. Already in the courtyard, an armored warrior astride his mount, faces (away from the viewer) a group of nabob observers who watch the proceedings from a white verandah above the gallery on the side of the arch.
