Indo-Italian Cabinet

17th century Indo-Italian cabinet with grid in rosewood and ivory, simulating 20 drawers, and quite characteristic of this period with geometrically inlaid ivory on the sides and cover. Cover with ivory fillets following the general decoration; spiral-shaped legs united at the bottom by spiral-shaped crossbeams connected by a screw system. The name “contador” [cabinet] derives from 15th century Italy and referred to little boxes with cover; the space inside was occupied with minute boxes used as jewellery boxes.
