Technical improvements in wagon construction made express mail coaches lighter and faster. It sits on top of English steel springs, and the luggage is put into a trailer called the side car. The express stagecoaches carried about 6 to 9 people and the trailer car, called the sidecar, provided necessary room for mail and baggage.
