Inla Road Ville Parle

Chittaprosad Bhattacharya was a self-taught artist, poet, storyteller, and an active member of the Communist Party of India. He drew inspiration from village sculptors, artisans and labourers. As eyewitnesses to accounts of the devastating Bengal Famine of 1943, Bhattacharya's works portray the problematic situations of the time. His works were powerful, emotive documentaries in the form of illustrations. His works reflect his reformist concerns.

In 1979 Bhattacharya met with Czech puppeteer Frantisek Ing Salaba who lived in Bombay briefly because of whose association a documentary about the artist was made by Pavel Hoble titled Confession that went on to win a special prize by the World Peace Council.
