Insect heads

On this island there are four giant models of head, respectively of: Insect heads Cockroach, Fly, Mosquito, Ant, highlighting the characteristics of mouthparts:
The chewing buccal apparatus (Cockroach and ant) is the most primitive type and the most represented in the Insect class. The typical structure allows to take the food from the substrate, possibly eroding it or tearing it, chewing it and introducing it into the oral cavity. These functions are carried out by the coordinated competition of mouthparts, each assigned to specific functions.
The stinging-sucking buccal apparatus (mosquito) loses all morphological similarity with the chewing one: appendages become very thin and long and, due to their ability to penetrate, they are called stilettos.
Present in some orders, the stinging-sucking buccal apparatus shows differentiations, from an anatomical and functional point of view, typical of each systematic group, but in general it is possible to consider the following constant prerogatives:
• long and thin buccal stilettos designed to penetrate the tissues;
• conformation of the stilettos so as to constitute, with the combination in the longitudinal direction, the channels for the passage of liquids;
• taking the food exclusively in the liquid state, with three phases: perforation, introduction of split, aspiration;
• possibility of transmission of pathogenic microorganisms (viruses, mycoplasmas, bacteria, protists) through spit.

The licking sucking buccal apparatus, typical of flies, is a deep adaptation to the diet based on sugary substances, more or less crystallized, scattered on a surface. Basically the apparatus has the shape of a proboscis shaped distally with a suction cup, able to dissolve the sugary substances and, subsequently, to aspirate. The structure of the apparatus changes radically in both morphological and anatomical terms. All the mouth appendages undergo a marked reduction in favor of the lower lip, shaped like a shower in the proximal and fleshy portion and expanded in the distal portion.
