Inside the High Bridge, Pufleet, King's Lynn

Oil painting by Henry Baines, 'Inside the High Bridge, Purfleet, King's Lynn'. (The 'Outside' view of the High Bridge can be seen in another painting in the collections, KILLM : 1994.1174). Inhabitants can be seen, looking out of dwellings on either side of the filthy Purfleet, which served both as an open sewer and as a source of drinking and washing water.
