This island focuses the issue of insects "globalization", that is, of those insects that, thanks to transport, have taken advantage of ships and planes to invade countries far from their original place. Unfortunately, when they reach a new country, these insects generally reproduce without control, finding no natural enemies. The result is the destruction of the agricultural resources they feed on, phytosanitary problems or even emergencies for our health. This is the case of the tiger mosquito, for example, which from far away Asia now harasses all human populations, but also of the Argentine ants, a real calamity for temperate ecosystems all over the world, of the palm weevil, responsible for the destruction of the Phoenix canariensis palm of our cities, of the Asian bug, which is inflicting incalculable damage to our fruit trees, up to the new entries: the pine cochineal, responsible for the death of the monumental pines of our city, and the gall wasp that destroys the crops of chestnuts.
