Interior of the Stables

Hendrik VERSCHURING17th century

Musée Bertrand
Châteauroux, France

A member of the judiciary, Hendrick Verschuring Vieux continued his career as an artist
painting cavalry and combat scenes, his specialty. He also left numerous Italianized landscapes and hunt works.
Here a groom busies himself with the horse of a cavalier who is resting.
The description of this stable, animated by the central motif of the white horse and cluttered with several objects shows the taste the painter had for the minute description of some elements of still life.
This canvas has similarities with a set of undated and unsigned paintings that are attributed to this artist devoted to the same equestrian theme.
Based on the texts of Sandrine Le Bideau in the catalog Flemish and Dutch paintings—Collection of the Châteauroux museums (Peintures Flamande et Hollandaise—Collection des Musées de Châteauroux) Somogy-Editions d'Art.
