The International Institute of the Portuguese Language is an institution of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, which has legal personality and is endowed with scientific, administrative and patrimonial autonomy. In 2002, at the VI Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), held in São Tomé and Príncipe, guidelines were drawn up for the start of Portuguese language management activities. Based in Praia, Santiago Island, Cape Verde, it represents the nine nations of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) on an equal basis - Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor. The Institute is an instrument for the common management of the Portuguese language, involving all CPLP Member States. The IILP promotes closer contact between countries and their technical teams, allowing the implementation of a consensual language policy. The Executive Direction and the Presidency of the Scientific Council of IILP are rotating, allowing all countries to occupy these positions.
