Ex-political prisoner Jama Mbatyoti was arrested in 1976 for planning and attempting to participate in a political march in Port Elizabeth. He was convicted and imprisoned on Robben Island from 1977-1981.
He was imprisoned in a group section, and engaged in hunger strikes to protest poor treatment and improve living conditions.
