Skokloster Castle
Skoklosters, Sweden

This detail of the storming of Frederiksodde shows parts of the artillery. The officer is on horseback and the non-commissioned officer (NCO) stands by his side with a halberd. Both NCO’s and officers could use spontoons, partisans or halberds as a sign of authority. The men are carrying fasces, large bundles of straw or rushes, that could be used for levelling the ground or making temporary cover for the gunners for instance.
