Ion C. Brătianu (1821-1891) was a central figure in 19th-century Romanian politics, being one of the main architects of the modern Romanian state. His activity was marked by his involvement in the 1848 Revolution, the Unification of the Principalities, and the achievement of national independence. He was the leader of the Liberal movement, founding the National Liberal Party and becoming its first president. He also served as Prime Minister of Romania, being responsible for implementing key reforms in the modernization of the state. He had a major influence in supporting the national cause, playing a decisive role in bringing Carol I to the throne of Romania and in the proclamation of national independence in 1877.
