An account by Stanley Cyril Beresford Mundey of his garrison's capture by the Turks after the siege of Kut Al Amara, which lasted for 143 days. The entire garrison surrendered to Khalil Pascha, head of the Turkish sixth Army, on 16 April 1916 and then marched to the town of Yozgad, arriving on 30 June 1916. The journey was difficult, the prisoners had to forage and haggle for their own food on the way, and many men became ill. Living arrangements in the prison were overcrowded and unsanitary.
