Irina Nakhova was born in 1955 in Moscow, graduated from the Graphic Design Department of the Moscow Institute of Polygraphy, and belonged to the Union of Artists of the USSR from 1986 to 1989. Her work has been featured in many major international exhibitions, among them Iskusstvo: Moscow–Berlin–Stockholm (West Berlin, 1988); Adresse provisoire pour l’art contemporain russe (Paris, 1993); Laughter Ten Years After (which travelled to six museums and galleries in the United States and Canada, 1995); Conceptualist Art: Points of Origin, 1950s–1980s (Queens Museum, New York, 1999); Berlin–Moscow / Moscow–Berlin, 1950–2000 (Berlin and Moscow, 2003–04); Irina Nakhova and Pavel Pepperstein: Moscow Partisan Conceptualism (London, 2010); and Post Pop: East Meets West (Saatchi Gallery, London, 2014). Her Rooms series was installed in the Moscow Museum of Modern Art in 2011, and her installation Repair was presented at the Stella Art Foundation in 2012. She received a Kandinsky Prize in 2013 in the category “Project of the Year.” Nakhova lives and works in Moscow (Russia) and New Jersey (United States).
