Iris Field Near Newcomb Greenhouse

Woodward was extremely fond of painting the Louisiana swamp irises as they plumed in the marsh areas across the lake in early spring. Perhaps the most famous of those works is the iris painting which won several prizes in Southern art competitions, and now in the collection of the New Orleans Museum of Art.
