Indupan is an ironing board used when ironing needlework. It was placed on the user’s thighs when ironing, and also used when starching needlework or folding seams. Indupan was made with a rectangular wooden board, whose upper and lower surfaces were thickly padded with cotton batting and wrapped with cloth. The board was edged with silk or embroidery, and hung on the wall. The indupan shown here is decorated on the surface with diamond patterns made of barley straw dyed in yellow, red, green, and black. Attached to the end of the board was a purple string with claret tassels for hanging on the wall.
