This is an idyllic Italian view. In his later landscapes of Lithuania, Marszewski captured perfectly the different northern light, and revealed more accurate shapes and more decorative planes, while his Italian landscapes show an ideal beauty and were painted in milder tones, with softer transitions and more subtlety. Pictures by him with similar motifs, The Mediterranean landscape (1869) and Italian seaside (1870), are held in private collections. Text author Nijolė Tumėnienė.
