Scene at a "cutcherry," or an administrative office in India. Seated on the left is George Campbell, Judicial Commissioner in Awadh or Oudh, and later Lieutenant Governor of Bengal, with a young attendant standing next to him. Standing before Campbell are a number of Indian men dressed in light-colored garments, some of whom are holding pieces of paper.
