Jewish Museum Vienna
Vienna, Austria

This Hanukkia was displayed on the occasion of the exhibition "Eternal Content in New Form. Judaica from the Bezalel Art School" (2.7.- 5. 9.1999) at the Jewish Museum Vienna. The artist Noga Ashkenazi donated this object to the museum after the exhibition. She studied and now teaches at the famous Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, which Boris Schatz founded in 1906. Schatz (1867, Vorno / Russia - 1932, Denver / USA) was a painter, sculptor decorator and art writer. He initially studied at the Art School in Vilnius, later in Paris, in addition to his Talmud studies. Intimate friend of Theodor Herzl, he went to Palestine in 1906 with the artist Ephraim Moses Lilien, where he founded the Bezalel National Museum in Jerusalem.
