This crystal, lustrous jade disk is embellished with carved patterns on both sides, serving as an ornament in ancient times. Attached on part of its edge with an open-work phoenix whose belly features an inscribed Chinese character of “yi”, this piece of jadeware is adorned on its disk with two agile and energetic dragons. Around the area where the head of one dragon meets the other’s tail there are two other characters “zi” and “sun”, which, combined with the one on the phoenix, convey the best wishes that dragons and phoenixes would bring blessing to the offspring.
