Orovida Camille Pissarro1947

Ben Uri Gallery and Museum

Ben Uri Gallery and Museum
London, United Kingdom

Orovida's most distinctive works are her paintings of the 1920s and 1930s in gouache (she called her mixture 'bodycolour') and egg tempera, applied in thin, delicate washes to silk, linen, paper or gold leaf, and embellished with brocade borders. Her work generally addresses non-western subjects. 'Jaguar' corresponds to another etching of the same date entitled 'The Monkey Killer', showing her taste for wild and exotic animal subjects.
