Jalis are carved stone screens that divide the inside of a building from the outside, while still allowing air and light to pass through. This pair of palace jalis combines an Islamic arabesque pattern with the sensuous representations of natural forms derived from Hindu art. This rich blend is typical of architectural decoration in India under Mughal rule.
