Part of the Jalousie neighbourhood was repainted in bright colours in 2012. But most houses remain without water and electricity. After the earthquake in 2010, 1.3 million people were left homeless. Many of them have been relocated in camps, while reconstruction is slow. Across the world, slums are home to over 826 million people and “welcome” about 27 million newcomers every year.
