James Lee Byars (1932-1997) was an American artist who visited CERN during a few summers in the early 1970s. He featured on the cover of CERN Courier, September 1972, where the caption inside says: "One of the visitors who brought some colour into the CERN corridors during the summer. He is photographed here on the ISR site with the experimental hall, I1, and water tower in the background." Art historian David Sewell later said that if you own this copy of the magazine, you have one of Byars' great works of art.
