A portrait of Sir. James Stuart, 1st Duke of Richmond and 4th Duke of Lennox. James Stuart is dressed in a white shirt and red cloak with a dog at his side. In 1641 James Stuart was made the first Duke of Richmond by his cousin King Charles I. In 1637 James Stuart married Mary Villiers, daughter of the King's favourite, the Duke of Buckingham.
