Japanese doll with composition face, hands, and feet. Portrays a merchant's wife, about 1880, in the kneeling position applying her morning makeup. Dressed in kimono of green brocade with an obi of orange brocade. Mounted on wooden board and in a glass and wood case. Presented to Eleanor Roosevelt in 1953 in Japan by the New Japan Broadcasting Co. Ltd., the Meiji Mutual Life Insurance Co. and Mrs. Keiko Tokonami, President of Holy Friend Home (Seiyu Home), Asagaya, Suginamiku, Tokyo. FDR Library Museum Collection, MO 1955.79.
