The hand-made ware, traditional Welsh glazes, and floral decoration of this Rebecca jar reflect the ideals of the nineteenth-century Arts and Crafts Movement in Great Britain. The vaguely Mediterranean form, the Egyptian-style lotuses, and the inclusion of the Hebrew name "Rebecca" hark back to ancient times and the story of the biblical Rebecca at the well.
