The finish dark brown glaze is achieved by applying akadobe before covering the surface with ash glaze. The fish motifs on the side are created using half-split, thin bamboo to make the scales. From examples of this type of jars found to have a piece of paper with the character for water attached, it is considered highly possible that this type of jars may have been used to hold water in the kitchen. The simple beauty of this kind of Tamba Ware was appreciated by Yanagi Muneyoshi, the promoter of the Folk Art Movement.
