While jars with a small opening are believed to have been used for storing rice seeds, coins and other items, urns with a wide opening and a body that narrows towards the base were containers used for the storage of liquids such as water and oil. In many cases they were buried in the ground and often discarded if broken. As a result, it is rare to find perfect examples of these.
