Wheel-made jar whose rim and lower
body are coated with red slip and
burnished. The jar has a straight
thickened rim, convex body that narrows
towards the base and a ring foot. The
upper part of the body is decorated over
cream coloured slip and burnished. The
painted decoration is in the form of nine
metopes or rectangular panels, each
delineated by four vertical red and black
lines, between which are black zigzags.
Each of the metopes contains a different
composition combining animal figures
with geometric motifs.
The animal figures consist of water
birds and wild goats and the geometric
motifs of lozenges and chevrons. Similar
jars belonging to the Urmiye culture
have been found in Van (see Özfırat 2001,
p. 23).
