Jean Alexandre (recto)

Amedeo Modigliani1909

Song Art Museum

Song Art Museum
Beijing, China

Jean Alexandre (recto) is rendered in distinct lines, firm, thick and garish colors of a suave male dressed in the dark green suit. His gaze projects unwaveringly out of the image, while his right hand supports his head as he immerses in deep self-reflection. Especially for the composition of his face, the artist applied various color blocks to make the contrast of light and shade, to generate the dimensionality and layers of his facial features, where the influence of Cubism, particularly that of Cézanne is made apparent.
