engraving by Wenceslaus Hollar after an original Pieter van Avont painting. van Avont was a Flemish painter, draughtsman and printmaker known for his religious scenes and cabinet paintings often including nude children and putti. Hollar was in his own right a well-known, prolific and accomplished graphic artist of the 17th century, who spent much of his life in England.
