Parker Brothers game manufacturer made very special Pastime Puzzles from 1908 to 1958. Unlike many other maker's puzzles during this period, Parker's did not follow specific grid patterns. Women artisans cut these puzzles and very soon learned to make custom pieces, specially shaped to resemble birds, animals, and objects. Pastime puzzles were the puzzles of choice, and scholars have identified many of the so-called Pastime girls who cut them. Celebrities, royalty, and any puzzler who enjoyed both a challenge and a well-made puzzle appreciated Parker Pastime puzzles. In 2012, Winning Moves Games began production of contemporary interpretations of Parker Pastime puzzles, complete with uniqely-shaped pieces.
