Ellen Tewksbury was a schoolteacher in Newton, Massachusetts during the early years of the twentieth century and the first craze for wooden jigsaw puzzles in America. She and another family member made jigsaw puzzles for family and friends, similar to other puzzle cutters of this era. Her "Jack O Lanterns" puzzle contains four figural pieces representing her initials, (E, T) as well as those of another family member (A, T). Perhaps both worked at cutting this puzzle together, or one cut it as a gift for the other.
