"Kentucky Belle" is the name of a jigsaw puzzle cut by Margaret Richardson (1876-1948) of New York City. Richardson devised a scheme to cut and sell jigsaws as "good fun," but when puzzles became really popular, among those who could afford them, she turned her scheme into a full-fledged business, adding as many as 40 employees to help with the work. Dating from 1908, Kentucky Belle is an early creation of Richardson's, soon afterwards she adopted the name "Perplexity Puzzles" for her jigsaw creations.
