Aside from Parker Brothers and Milton Bradley, The Madmar Quality Co. of Utica, NY was one of the longest-lived American puzzle manufacturers. The firm specialized in higher quality wood puzzles for children and adults, although their quality did not measure up to Parker's famous Pastime Puzzles. However, Madmar puzzles sold for less, and the firm produced puzzles from 1915 until 1966.

A 1932 Madmar ad touted jigsaw puzzles as an antidote to the "gloom, flurry, and worry" of the Great Depression. The firm produced puzzle sets for both children and adults during this time, when jigsaw puzzles enjoyed their greatest streak of popularity. A Madmar Party Puzzle Set from the 1930s is marked "suitable for two, three or four players."
